Steven Richard Christenson, 68, died on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital. He was born on Nov. 4, 1955, in Denison, to parents Albert "Tab" and Lila Jean (Brink) Christenson.  Steve's mother died when he was nine and his father when he was 16.  Roger and Maryann Collins were there for him at that early age and he helped them on their dairy farm.  Steve attended Dow City - Arion School and graduated with his GED in 1983.  On Sept. 4, 1976, Steve married Kathy Malone at the Dow City Methodist Church.  They have always lived in the Dow City area.  Steve continued working for Roger for the first years of their marriage.  Steve held many jobs over the years and most times two jobs at the same time.  He worked for both cities of Dow City and Dunlap in charge of waste-water management.  He also worked for Omaha Better Living Patio Rooms, Gary Reisz Construction and co-owned and operated CT Construction with Bill Truitt.  Steve also farmed and raised cattle, hogs and chickens.

Steve had a tender heart for all animals, loved to “socialize”, golf, camping, flea markets and collect anything associated with Pepsi. Steve’s favorite holiday was Christmas.  He loved to decorate for Christmas and loved getting all the family together to celebrate Christmas. He his late years he enjoyed woodworking and restoring antique furniture. Most of all Steve loved spending time with his family, his “boys” and his grandchildren.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gloria "Toot" Mefford; father-in-law, Max Malone; and brother-in-law, Dennis "Pete" Malone.  He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Dow City; two daughters, Angie Fouts and her fiancé Glen Barngrover of Denison and Tracie Miller of Dow City; his "boys", Butch and Spud; four grandchildren, Michael Christenson and his wife Britney, Dominic Fouts, Alexia Miller and Logan Miller; one great-grandson, Brock Steven Christenson; special niece, Melissa Malone; mother-in-law, Clara Mae Malone; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at Community of Christ in Dow City. Cathy Garrett and Ace Ettleman presided over the service. The musician was Deb Garrett. The congregational musical selections were “Amazing Grace”, “In the Garden” and “On Eagles Wings”. The honorary pallbearers were the Dow City Fire and Rescue Department. The pallbearers were Luke Fouts, Kevin Collins, Joe Gorden, Michael Christenson, Dominic Fouts, Logan Miller, Alexia Miller and Brock Steven Christenson.

Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap was in charge of the arrangements.
