Robert P. Fouts, 88

Robert Paul Fouts, 88, died on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Azria Health Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine. He was born on July 26, 1935, near Dunlap, child #3 to the “best parents in the area”, Fay and Helen (Burns) Fouts. When he was born, he joined a sister on the farm, and three brothers and three sisters followed soon after. Bob attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Dunlap and then Dunlap High School graduating with the class of 1954. Following graduation Bob worked at a gas station in Dunlap and for Jim Schaben Sr. driving a semi hauling cattle. Bob married Shirley DeLance in September of 1954. To this union six children were born. Bob started Fouts Construction and built houses in the Dunlap area. Later on, Bob moved to Omaha, Neb. and worked maintenance at an apartment complex, in hospital housekeeping and home repairs. Bob then returned to Dunlap.

Bob was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dunlap. In his earlier years he loved to bowl and play baseball. He also coached all of the boys in little league.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Billy; sister, Vicky Henkelman; son-in-law Michael Murphy and brothers-in-law, David Young and Jerry Kloewer. He is survived by his children, Cathy Murphy of Dunlap, Steve Fouts of Dunlap, Geoff )Tracy) Fouts of Council Bluffs, Ron (Mary) Fouts of Dunlap, Mike Fouts of Dunlap and Terry (Shannon) Fouts of Dunlap; 14 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Pauline Kloewer of Harlan, Phil (Anita) Fouts of Woodbine, Kenneth (Janice) Fouts of Dunlap, Phyllis (WD “Pete”) Peterson of Sahuarita, Ariz., Becky Young of Mesa, Ariz. and Jim (Peggy) Fouts of Dow City; brother-in-law, Tom Henkelman of Omaha; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap. Beth Fouts presided over the service. The musical selections were “Angels Among Us” by Alabama, “Daddy’s Hands” by Holly Dunn and “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas. The pallbearers were Cathy Murphy, Steve Fouts, Geoff Fouts, Ron Fouts, Mike Fouts and Terry Fouts. Bob’s final resting place is at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
