Steven Earl “Biggy” Thompson was born on Oct. 18, 1954, in Denison, to Earl and Beth Darlene (Hulsebus) Thompson. He was raised in Dunlap and was blessed to be able to live on the family farm for his entire life. He attended school in Dunlap and graduated in the class of 1973. Steve joined the workforce and provided maintenance service at Kimmen Service, IBP and Amazing Energy before farming full time.

Steve found solace and joy in the great outdoors, particularly through hunting and fishing. Whether it was casting a line into a tranquil lake or navigating the woods in pursuit of game, Steve's bond with nature was undeniable. Beyond his love for the outdoors, Steve possessed a green thumb and enjoyed tending to his garden. One of Steve's most cherished pastimes was cooking and baking. He inherited his passion for baking from his mother, and even after her passing, Steve carried on her legacy by spending countless hours in the kitchen. His homemade creations were always made with love and served as a symbol of his affection. Most of all, Steve enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends, and he leaves behind a multitude of memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those that knew him.

Steve died on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Neb., at the age of 69 years, two months and 27 days.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Eugene Gilleland. Steve is survived by his siblings, Vivian Gilleland of Dunlap, Beth and her husband Joe Sullivan of Dunlap, Richard “Henry” Thompson and his wife Shawna of Manilla and Cynthia and her husband Don Vollbrecht of Norfolk, Neb.; many beloved nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
