Sharon ‘Sherry’ K. Walker, 82

Sharon “Sherry” Kay (Harper) Walker, 82, died on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Ariza Health Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine. She was born September 4, 1940, to Glen and Beulah “Billie” (Wilson) Harper in Iowa Falls. The family moved to Ottumwa and Dow City before settling in Dunlap. Sherry attended school in Dow City and Dunlap and worked at her parent’s creamery business. On March 18, 1957, Sherry married Dwayne “Doak” Walker. The couple was blessed with three children. Sherry’s father passed away and her mother then married Frank Humlicek. Frank was a pharmacist and operated the Dunlap Pharmacy. Sherry worked there for many years until Frank retired and closed the pharmacy. Sherry then worked for Apothecary, with Gerri and Murray Hubbard and Jack Hinze, in Woodbine as a sales rep to other pharmacies. She also worked for the Veterans Administration in Omaha for 24 years. She was smart and a very hard worker. She held several positions in the payroll department as she climbed the corporate ladder. The last several years of her employment she was a secretary in the research department where she continued to process payroll for several doctors per their request. Sherry retired from the VA in 2005 due to her diagnosis of dementia.

Sherry had enjoyed camping and reading books. Doak lovingly cared for Sherry for many years in their home. Following a stay in the hospital it was necessary for Sherry to then transfer to the nursing home.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents; step-father; brother, Neal Harper, step-sister, Connie Brink; and great-granddaughter, Ray Lynn Johnson. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Doak Walker of Woodbine; three children, Gail Walker and his wife Mari of Woodbine, Sheril and her   husband Kevin Kobs of Avoca, Tim Walker and his wife Janet of George; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Jereme, Suzette, Jennifer, Justin and Mikayla; 11 great grandchildren; Elijah, Xavier, Cashton, Weston, Devina, Laramie, Gabriel, Jameson, Nayeli, Olivia and Rowdy; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Camperoe; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. Beth Fouts presided over the service. The musicians were Nancy Foutch and Rick Morrison. The musical selections were “In the Garden” and “Old Rugged Cross”. The pallbearers were Jereme Walker, John Johnson, Suzette Johnson, Andy Lobien, Jennifer Lobien, Justin Walker, Becky Walker, Demargo Friedl and Mikayla Friedl. Sherry’s final resting place is at the Woodbine Cemetery.
