Jane Louise Burroughs, 71, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022, in Ute. She was born on Jan. 19, 1951, to Paul and Helen (Turner) Hartwig in Denison. She was raised in Dunlap and graduated with the Class of 1970. Jane went on to attend business school in Grand Island, Neb. Jane married Daniel Burroughs on June 4, 1972, at the Congregational Church in Dunlap. The couple lived in Omaha, Neb., Council Bluffs, Denison, Red Oak, Danbury and finally made their home in Ute. Jane not only provided care for her kids while they were growing up, she also waitressed for a couple restaurants in Dunlap and Mapleton and helped to care for many elderly people in the Ute area.
Jane loved to knit and play solitaire. She enjoyed shopping and watching TV. Jane loved sitting on the porch with the kids and grandkids watching storms roll through. She also made sure she had a can of Pepsi nearby.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dan Burroughs of Ute; children, Cheryl Burroughs of Ute, Jodi Whited of Smithland, Scott Burroughs of Denison and Paul Burroughs of Osborne, Kan.; grandchildren, Michael O’Brien, Matthew O’Brien, Sarah O’Brien, Skylar Olmstead, Dakotah Whited, Austin Burroughs, Ethan Burroughs, Aiden Burroughs and Paul “Peanut” Burroughs; great-grandchildren, Fayelynn, Ryver, Benson and Karson; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap. Pastor Gene Kline officiated the service. The recorded musical selections were “Amazing Grace” by Alan Jackson and “When I Get Where I’m Going” by Brad Paisley. Honorary pallbearers were Austin Burroughs, Aiden Burroughs and Paul “Peanut” Burroughs. The pallbearers were Michael O’Brien, Mathew O’Brien, Sara O’Brien, Skylar Olmstead, Dakotah Whited and Ethan Burroughs. Jane’s final resting place is at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap.
