Eileen E. Heffernan, 88

Eileen Eleanor Heffernan, 88, died on Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, at Azria Health Rose Vista in Woodbine. She was born on Sept. 4, 1934, in Madison, Neb., to George and Libby (Smutny) Kreitman. She grew up in Madison and graduated from Madison High School in 1953. She got her teaching certificate and taught for a short time. Eileen then moved to Omaha, Neb. and worked at Mutual of Omaha. She married Pat Heffernan on Oct. 12, 1957, in California. The couple lived in California for a short time and then moved to Omaha, followed by Denison, and finally in the early 60’s to Dunlap. Eileen worked at the Dunlap Nursing Home and at the Dunlap Sale Barn.

Eileen was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dunlap. She was a great cook and loved to bake. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crossword puzzles and spending time at the cabin.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Aidan Green; great-grandson, Riley Beeck; daughter-in-law, Amy Heffernan; two brothers, George Kreitman, Jr. and Ordeen Kreitman. She is survived by her husband, Pat Heffernan of Dunlap; eight children, Dan Heffernan and his wife Diane of Dunlap, Jodi Blom of Des Moines, Brian Heffernan and his wife Paula of Dunlap, Colleen and her husband Chad Heistand of Dunlap, Rick Heffernan and Sherry Gorka of Dunlap, Rob Heffernan and Becky Bell of Denison, Jim Heffernan of Dunlap and Maureen Heffernan and Jeff Malone of Dunlap; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brother, Melvin Kreitman and his wife Lois of North Bend, Neb.; sister, Deanna and her husband Larry Schlecht of Scribner, Neb.; and many other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dunlap, led by Father Joel McNeil. Rick Rannells provided the music. The honorary pallbearers were Tracey Russmann, Makayla Beeck, Heather Goodman, Amanda LeFebvre, Aileen Heffernan, Ashley Boysen, Jamie Blom and Molly Malone. The pallbearers were Ben Wingrove, Jason Vogt, Derek Green, Dylan Blom, Brian Green, Tyler Heffernan, Connor Green, Michael Heffernan and Patrick Heffernan. Eileen’s final resting place is at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap.
