Clay Adam Thompson, 59, died on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at his home in Dunlap. He was born on Dec. 16, 1963, to Avery and Verna (Merritt) Thompson in Denison. He attended school in Dunlap, graduating with the class of 1982. After graduating he worked at Nordstrum, Farmland and was a long-time mechanic at Quality Trucking.

Clay had a fondness for the Rottweiler breed and his beloved dogs held a special place in his heart. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, listening to records and drinking Budweiser with his friends.

Clay was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Brett Thompson; and beloved dogs, Lucy, Lucky and Reno. He is survived by his sister, Peg and her husband Rick Pauley of Earling; nieces, Nikki Pauley and Luke Fouts of Dunlap and Tara and her husband Joe Gorden of Dow City; nephew, Derek Pauley and fiancé Ashley Fox of Earling; great-nieces, Lexi and Gabi; and many good friends and family.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap. Beth Fouts officiated over the service. The musical selections were “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd and “Drink a Beer” by Luke Bryan. Clay’s final resting place is at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
