Sandra Ann Culver, 79, died on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at the Azria Health Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine. She was born on Dec. 7, 1942, in Denison, to Dean and Irma (Christenson) Chase. She attended school at the Dow City-Arion Community School and graduated in 1961. Sandy later went on to further her education in nurses training at Iowa Western Community College. In March of 1961, Sandy was united in marriage to Paul Baak and they were blessed with a daughter, Brenda. After their divorce, Sandy married Dennis Culver and stepped into the role of stepmom to his daughter, Tammi. Sandy was an LPN and enjoyed her nursing positions at Myrtue Hospital in Harlan and then at the Dunlap Care Center in Dunlap.

Sandy was a long-time member of the Dow City United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading James Patterson books, oil painting and going shopping. Sandy also liked playing the game YAHTZEE, going to the casino and drinking Diet Coke. Most of all she loved he r family.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; stillborn daughter, Baby Girl Baak; infant son, Shane David Culver; and brother, Terry Chase. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda and her husband Dan Cambridge of Omaha, Neb. and Tammi and her husband Bob Smith of Hornick; five grandchildren, Mathew Andresen, Michael Andresen, Kaitlyn Bonsall, Chase Bonsall and Tyler Smith; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jerry Chase and his wife Ronda of Council Bluffs, Larry Chase and his wife Teri of Largo, Fla., Barry Chase and his wife Tammy of  Gretna, Neb. and Kerry Chase and his wife Shari of Temple, Ga.; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, at the Dow City United Methodist Church. Pastor Aaron Terwilleger presided over the service. The recorded musical selections were “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brother, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Elvis Presley and “In The Arms Of An Angel” by Sarah McLachlan. The honorary pallbearers were Kaitlyn Bonsall, Dru McCarthy, Dawson Holmes, Piper Andresen and Josephine Andresen. The pallbearers were Tony Chase, Shase Bonsall, Roger Chase, Colby Meseck, Nolan Neddermeyer, Ed Heller and Josh Chase. Sandy’s final resting place is at the Dow City Cemetery.
