Posted

Roberta Ann (Vandivort) Baker went into eternal rest on Oct. 26, 2020, at The Hansen House, Memory Care Residence in Council Bluffs, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

On a cold Jan. 17th day in 1940, Roberta "Bertie" was born to George and Hilda (Pederson) Vandivort. She lived in Moorhead, until she was a junior in high school and moved to Dunlap, graduating in 1958. Roberta married Dean Sandage in 1958. The couple was blessed with five children. Roberta was a farm wife for many years before driving a school bus for Dunlap Community Schools and writing the society section for the Dunlap Reporter. In 1987, she married Don Baker. They opened A1 Discount Cleaners in Omaha and Council Bluffs. They made their home in Ashland, Neb. from 1991 until they retired to Arkansas in 2005.

Roberta was often found crocheting, sewing, cooking, gardening, canning, playing cards and cuddling the cats on the front porch. She loved having company. There was always a place at her table for anyone anytime.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Beverly (Sandage) Hall; husband, Don Baker; two brothers George Jr, Frank and John (infant) Vandivort; and two sisters, Thelma Dunkenson and Doratt Baker. Roberta is survived by her children, Randy (Joanne) Sandage of Panora, Deb (Steve) Lacey of Dunlap, Karen (Scott) Claussen of Denison, and Terri (John) Beadleson of Plattsmouth, Neb., sister-in-law, Carol Vandivort, Mapleton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends who will dearly miss her.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020, at Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap. The clergy was Pastor Aaron Terwilliger. The recorded musical selection was “Amazing Grace”. The honorary pallbearers were: Cally Sandage, Katie Sandage, Joshua Claussen, Samantha Claussen, Kyle Sandage and Kari Sandage. The final resting place is at the Spring Valley Cemetery in Moorhead.
