The Midwest is noted for its extreme weather variations and its continental-type climate that includes wide temperature and moisture extremes within a year and from year to year. As a matter of fact, our region is in the midst of an extreme drought. Some parts of Harrison County, for example, have had only two good rains since Aug. 10, and Omaha has a rain deficit approaching a foot.
