Loretta J. Hamblin, 72

Loretta Janelle Hamblin, 72, died on Dec. 29, 2020, at CHI Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Neb., due to Covid-19 complications. She was born on Aug. 12, 1948, in Michigan City, Ind. She was adopted by Pete and Emma (Weber) Pedersen of Dunlap. She grew up in Dunlap and graduated with the class of 1966. Loretta went on to beauty school in Sioux City and then spent time traveling abroad to London, England and Paris, France. On Sept. 7, 1968, Loretta was married to Roger Miller and to this union three children were born, Jennifer, Janelle and Jason. They were married for 22 years. Loretta married Gary Hamblin in 1997.

Loretta enjoyed puzzles, sewing and crafts. She also loved working outside in her yard mowing, gardening and taking care of her flowers. Most of all she loved the many years she spent helping take care of her grandchildren.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jennifer Crozier in 2010; husband, Gary Hamblin in 2002; siblings, Norma Brockman and Norene (Bill) Rannells; as well as seven other siblings, Merlin, Walt, Robin, Steve, Junior, Carl and Sharon. She is survived by daughter, Janelle Spencer and her fiancé Eddie Shirley of Omaha; son, Jason Miller of Crescent; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Norma (Jim) Warnock of Mitchellville, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. Pastor Chip Borgstadt presided over the service. The recorded musical selections were “I Bet My Life” by Imagine Dragons, “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dione and “It Is No Secret” by Anne Murray. The honorary pallbearers were Loretta’s grandchildren, Megan, Drew, Bailey, Grace, Charlee, Andee, Henry, Kylar and Kade.
