Keith “Ted” Harold McCord was born on Feb. 7, 1962, in Denison, to Harold and Elaine (Dai) McCord. He grew up in Dunlap and graduated in the class of 1980. Keith went on to further his training at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, specializing in diesel mechanics. After his schooling, Keith went to work for his dad at McCord Trucking. In the early 80’s, Keith moved to Miami, Florida, then in 1986 moved to Lakeland, Fla. and worked for a fire extinguisher company. He lived in various cities in Florida including Coca Beach, Clearwater, Merritt Island and Plant City. He drove truck for Pullen Brothers. In 2002, he moved to Knoxville, Tenn. and in 2006 moved to Denver, Colo. In 2010, Keith moved to Denison to be close his mother Elaine (his best friend). While living in Denison, he worked for Midwest Continental. Keith then moved to Dunlap and then Omaha to be close to his sister, Cheryl. Keith’s dream was to move back to Florida, he really enjoyed his years there. All the years of driving truck took Keith to all 48 contiguous states.

Keith enjoyed old cars, going to drag races in Denver with Leo, golfing and reading books. He enjoyed listening to music and collected several cd’s and records. Keith also took a lot of time learning about natural health and vitamins. He spent a lot of time day trading on his computer. Keith also possessed the gift of gab and enjoyed spending time talking with his friends and former classmates. Keith enjoyed politics too and was an avid Republican.

Keith died on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at his home in Omaha, Neb. at the age of 62 years, three months and 28 days.

Keith was preceded in death by his father, Harold McCord; mother, Elaine Ruhde; stepfather, Larry Ruhde; stepmother, Nancy McCord; and sister, Debbie Petersen. He is survived by his sisters, Cheryl and her husband Leo Block of Omaha, Neb. and Darcy McCord Winther and her husband Jamie Winther of Pisgah; brother-in-law, Ronald Petersen of Westfield, Mass.; nephew, Dan Block and his wife Kelsi of Elkhorn, Neb.; nieces, Lindsey Block of Omaha, Lacie and her husband Brian Rife of Mondamin and Amber Winther of Pisgah; great-nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

A visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, July 13 from 2-4 p.m. at the Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap.
