Jean A. Dommer, 87

Jean Adele (Arndt) Dommer, 87, died on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, at the Dunlap Specialty Care. She was born on Nov. 1, 1933, in Onawa, to parents William C. and Leila M. (Jones) Arndt.  She attended Blencoe Elementary School and Blencoe High School, graduating in 1951. Jean furthered her education at Morningside College in Sioux City and graduated with a degree in vocal music and a minor in English.  She taught vocal music in Paulina, Castana and then Charter Oak-Ute for 37 years.  On August of 1958 Jean married Charles B. Dommer, Jr.  The couple lived north of Soldier and then south of Ute.  Charles died in 1988.  After Jean retired from Charter Oak-Ute, she moved to Dunlap and continued to substitute teach until May of 2015.

Jean was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church and then after moving to Dunlap became a member of St. John Lutheran Church.  She was always a church organist and has played for many weddings and funerals.  Jean was a 50-year member of the Queen Esther Chapter #22 Eastern Star in Onawa and a member of DAR. Jean taught piano lessons to numerous children over the years. Most of all, Jean loved her grandkids and great-grandkids. 

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; grandson, Brandon Gonsalves; sister, Maxine Arndt; and brother, Vernon Arndt. She is survived by her three daughters, Janet and her husband Jim Harris of Madrid, Cheryl Eneboe of Pisgah and Karen Dommer and her spouse Tammy Dommer of Pisgah; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren with one on the way; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, Mar. 4, 2021, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. Pastor Chip Borgstadt presided over the service. The musicians were Lynette Thies and Cheryl Eneobe. The pallbearers were Tony Klein, Mike Harris, Rob Smith, Brad Steppuhn, Cole Summers, Larry Klein, Jakob Smith, Carol Jensen, Ronnie Amunson and Rod Eneobe. Jean’s final resting place is at the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery.
