Jane Elizabeth Davie, 89, died on Monday, April 24, 2023, at Azria Health Longview in Missouri Valley. She was born on May 3, 1933, in Soldier to Orville and Nellie Jane (Bolton) Smith. She married Donald ‘Dover’ Davie on June 17, 1951. They raised five children, John, Mitchell, Maria, Laurie and Matthew. Jane went to Dana College and graduated in 1972. She then taught school in Missouri Valley for 20 years, where she also made many life-long friends.

Jane grew up in the Loess Hills and loved taking her children and grandchildren to Preparation Park for picnics. She loved to travel and had toured Europe, Canada and most of the United States. Jane volunteered with the Dunlap Historical Society and Meals on Wheels. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church and the Boyer Valley Sunshine Club.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dover in 2019; sons, John Donald and Mitchell Jay; and all of her siblings. She is survived by her children, Maria Davie, Laurie and her husband Larry Klein and Matt Davie and his wife Dawn; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Davie; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Myra and her husband Gene Peterson; and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Dunlap. The officiants were Pastor Aaron Terwilleger and Beth Fouts. The musicians were Tom and Barb Amsberry and Sharon Foughty. The musical selections were “The Old Rugged Cross”, “Onward Christian Soldiers” and “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone”. The honorary urn bearers were Jacob Bunten, Jonathan Bunten, Abraham Davie, Nathan Davie, Dillon Malone, Jack Nichols, James Nichols and Mitchell Nichols. Jane’s final resting place will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap.
