Colin Eugene Garrett, 22, died as a result of an accident on July 22, 2023, in Wichita, Kan. He was born on Nov. 15, 2000, to Kelly and Amber (Grady) Garrett in Denison. He was baptized, made his First Holy Communion, and was confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dow City, where he was a longtime altar server. He attended school at Boyer Valley High School and graduated in 2019. He continued his education at Iowa State University and graduated in 2023, obtaining a degree in animal science.

Colin developed a deep passion for ranching and all things animals. Whether he was tending to livestock or playing with the shop cats, Colin’s gentle nature made everyone feel welcome. Colin was always proud of his upbringing and had a strong faith in God. His dedication to his community and devotion to his family was unwavering.

Aside from his work, Colin loved the Cyclones and all things Iowa State, where he met Kaitlin, the love of his life. What truly set Colin apart was his kindness and commitment to seeing the best in everyone. He had a strong work ethic and a witty sense of humor. He had just started running the new family business, GLC Beef, while also managing Ettleman’s Town and Country. Colin loved what he did and was deeply loved by many.

Colin is survived by his parents, Kelly and Amber Garrett of Arion; brothers, Connor Garrett and his fiancé Erin Weber and Cael Garrett all of Dow City; girlfriend, Kaitlin Wille of Dunlap; grandparents, Gene and Cathy Garrett of Arion, Pat Grady of Logan and Rickie Klein of Dunlap; great-grandmother, Phyllis Klein of Dunlap; and many other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Father Michael Cronin presided over the service assisted by Father Shinoj Jose and Reverend Paul Kelly. The musicians were Judy Thams, EveVonne Muff and the St. Rose of Lima Choir. The honorary pallbearers were Richie Malone, Cory Malone, Josh Thomsen and Mike Williams. The pallbearers were Ty Houston, Tyler Wille, Patrick Garrett, Trevor Malone, Bryce Ring and Jack Heistand. Colin’s final resting place is at the Dow City Cemetery.
