Betty J. Schlensig

Betty Jean Schlensig, daughter of Leroy and Catherine (Kline) Rose, was born on Jan. 10, 1937, in Dunlap. On Aug. 12, 1954, Betty was united in marriage to Robert Milton Schlensig of Soldier. They became parents to two children: Milton Schlensig and Melba (Schlensig) Starr.

She started her married life farming near the Dunlap area. Soon a child was born, Milton Marty Schlensig. Her husband was drafted into the Army in September 1955, and she joined him in Fort Gordon, Ga., with their son after boot camp. They all returned to Dunlap, in September 1957, to continue farming. Another child was born, Melba Kay Schlensig. In 1963, the family moved to Phoenix, Ariz., for her husband's health. She obtained a position at the Ramada Inn hotel as telephone operator. She transferred to a bookkeeping position at a CPA accounting firm of Norman and Son. She soon promoted to office manager and accountant. She obtained her GED. She joined American Society Women Accountants and was a devoted member for over 30 years. She held every position in the society including President. After many years of devotion to Norman and Son, she left the firm to assist her son in starting his own business. Once his business was established, she transferred to an Accountant position with Harkin's Theaters. Her and her husband moved to Circle City, Ariz., for cleaner air and smalltown life. She transferred to an Accountant position with United Food Bank. She retired to enjoy her grandchildren and travel. She moved to Wickenburg, Ariz., after her husband of 52 years passed away in 2006.

Betty died on Nov. 4, 2022, at Beatitudes Campus in Phoenix, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; younger sister, Janice (Rose) Allen; and older brother, James Rose.

She is survived by her son, Milton Schlensig and his wife Deborah of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Melba Starr of Manteca, Calif.; three grandchildren, Brandon Schlensig, Christie (Schlensig) Stevenson and Meghan (Starr) Ennis.
